More Challenges
7/1/2004

Lori had another MRI/MR spectroscopy done on Tuesday. We got the radiologist's report yesterday. Unlike previous tests done over the last couple of months, this test unfortunately confirmed a recurrence of the tumor. We will know more after the surgery and subsequent pathology test. We are enrolling Lori in a clinical trial of a promising drug called IL13-PE38QQR. It's a compound that combines a a toxic agent to a protein molecule which is attracted to tumor cells only. It is given by means of a new drug delivery sytem called convection. They pump the drug into the brain over 96 hours. The delivery is intended to get more of the drug to the site of the removed tumor and surrounding brain.

We're praying that Lori will qualify for the study and more importantly she will be chosen to get the actual drug. The study is a clinical trial in which 2 of every 3 participants will get the drug. 1 of every 3 get what we think is a much less desirable treatment called a Gliadel Wafer which is implanted at the former site of the tumor.

Lori and I are off to the hospital again today to get her functional mri.
