Welcome to Team LAAF HQ!

Team LAAF HQ is the place to visit for all of your race day information. 

Team LAAF was created for walkers and runners to share in the journey towards the cure for brain cancer.  Together, we create awareness and hope to inspire others to make a difference.
We hope that teams will continue to form throughout the year and pursue individual goals, such as running a marathon or participating in a walk, to raise funds for LAAF and to support the important goals of awareness, advocacy and research projects.

Team LAAF's motto is to live, love, laaf and RUN!   

LIVE: We run for Life!  and to save the lives of those with brain cancer. As a Team LAAF member, we know that all things are possible and share life's journey with the brain cancer patient.  We share the hard road, a courageous battle, strength and perseverance, the will to overcome great obstacles and the hope that is needed to reach unimaginable goals. When a Team LAAF member steps across the finish line, they experience a moment of limitless possibilities! Ones that lead us to imagine the cure for brain cancer!

LOVE: We run for Love!  for the love of those fighting the battle and for those that have lost the battle - we run in their place and continue the fight!

LAAF: We run for LAAF!  By joining a run or walk and wearing our LAAF race bibs and t-shirts - we are creating a strong presence in the community.  There is power in numbers and together we are increasing awareness of those untouched by brain cancer.  By increasing the communities knowledge of our cause - we are able to reach even more people, which in turn will raise more funds to make a difference in the future of brain cancer patients.

RACE: 'Chase to the Taste' 5K Run/Walk    CHARITY: Team LAAF

WHEN: Saturday, June 2nd      START: 9:00 am        DISTANCE: 5K (3.1 Miles)        Course description: A flat course through residential streets.

COURSE location: Downtown Des Plaines, IL  at Pearson Street & Library Drive (google maps: Pearson Street Des Plaines, IL)

PARKING: Please park in the Metropolitan Square garage, on Lee Street (North of Miner Street)

 

About the Race

This year LAAF has partnered with the Des Plaines Park District to run/walk in the 'CHASE TO THE TASTE' 5K. This timed event winds through the historic, closed-off streets of downtown Des Plaines. It ends with a wonderful award ceremony to recognize runners with the top race times in different categories. LAAF will also award the top fundraising individual AND the top fundraising TEAM. Runners will receive race t-shirts, goody bags, prizes and healthy snacks, juice and water.

We are so excited to be the very first Participating Charity in the 2nd Annual Chase to the Taste 5K RUN/WALK, and to work along side the Park District to make this an exciting event for all! Can't wait to see you at the race!!

The event was named 'Chase to the Taste' because runners are 'chasing' each other on a 3.1 Mile course to the Taste of Des Plaines. At the 'Taste' enjoy entertainment, arts & crafts, food, a health expo, kids activities and lots of fun!

 

Fees

$25 registration fee

Your $25 registration fee covers LAAF's registration fee AND your race entrance fee.
After May 30th, all registration fees are $35 and will also cover both your LAAF fee and the race entrance fee.

CARA Members

This event is a CARA (Chicago Area Runners Association) registered race. CARA members receive a $2.50 discount on registration fees. Please enter your CARA member# on your registration form and your discount will automatically be taken off.

Chicago Area Runners Association (CARA) is a non-profit organization devoted to expanding, motivating, supporting and celebrating the running community of Chicagoland.  CARA connects runners to resources that enable them to run - further, faster, better, for life.  www.cararuns.org.

Upon receipt of your mailed in registration form and fee, we will create an online fundraising page for you. We'll give you the web address to hand out to friends so they can make a secure donation in your name. You can also collect funds in person and mail them in - but we wanted to make sure you had access to the online capabilities for your donors convenience.

Packet Pick-Up
 

If you are registered before May 30th:

Pick up your race packet on Friday, June 1st between 9:00am - 7:00pm at:

Prairie Lakes Community Center
515 East Thacker Street
Des Plaines, IL.


Race Day Packet Pick-Up

If you did not register before May 30th:

You can pick up your race packet on race day, June 2nd from 7:30 - 8:40am, inside the registration tent.

No packet pick up after 8:40am.

Fundraising Goals

 Each participant has an individual fundraising goal of $200; which is NOT mandatory.

Race Results

Race results will be posted on www.Cararuns.org and www.desplainesparks.org .
 

Chase Runners Awards

5K Run awards will be given to those registered as runners.  The awards are: overall male & female, 1st, 2nd & 3rd male & female in each age group, oldest finisher, first male & female residents of Des Plaines.

5K Walk - walkers will be timed; however, there are no awards for the 5K Walk.

Additional Notes

Race runs: Rain or Shine.
No dogs allowed.
Strollers must start at the rear.
You must be a registered runner to be eligible for timed running awards.
Registered individuals are eligible for the top fundraiser awards.
Teams must be registered as a TEAM to be eligible for team top fundraising awards.
Unclaimed race packets will be held at Prairie Lakes until June 17th.
Register early - event t-shirts to the first 300 runners and walkers.
