Second Week of Radiation
10/13/2003
I don't know if it's the chemo radiation combo or just radiation, but the fatigue is really starting to get me. Mainly within the past few days. Although, we had family in town and a big family party, perhaps I am just tired from all the events of the weekend. I hope that is all and that the radiation hasn't gotten to me yet...I was hoping it wouldn't hit me for another few weeks!
More about radiation: Today was an okay day. I finally got a standing appointment at 8:45 a.m. Thought that would be a great time to get slotted for, as the earlier in the day (I foolishly thought) would lessen the chance of them running behind - I should be in and out no problem. Well, so far everyday I haven't gotten into the IMRT room for 30-40 minutes late, at least.
Anyhow, once in the room they allow my to play a cd, which is incredibly helpful as I usually bring something to meditate to. More often than not though, I can only hear parts of the cd because the beams of radiation (which sound much like a dentist's drill) vibrate around my head. Fortunately, the sessions only last 12 minutes. So, I go in, put in my cd, lie down on a gurnie, listen to music and drilling sounds for 12 minutes and that's pretty much it.
Tomorrow I get to see my neuro-surgeon. My scar line has been giving my problems since I had gamma knife. I stopped by the neuro-surgery department today to have a nurse look at my scar...there is a bit of swelling and the piece of skull that was removed for surgery is stighly out of place. Her impression was that I don't have an infection, rather the piece of skull is disjointed. Disjointed? What does that mean??? It does feel out of place, there is a little step from where the normal skull to where the removed piece is, but what now? If they have to go back in and tighten the screws, they'll simply have to put out again...that doesn't sound like much fun. Not looking forward to what he has to say tomorrow...
