Uncertainty, Again
5/6/2004

Since Lori's last posting, she had another MRI done yesterday. It revealed significant enhancement (activity) around the tumor cavity, significanlty more than her last scan on March 1. The additional testing done following her last scan suggested no tumor activity. Here we are 1 1/2 monthes later wondering what we are dealing with. Her neuro-oncologist told us , "I don't know what it is but it should come out". He indicated it could be necrosis (dead tissue as a result of the radiation treatments) or new tumor growth.
We will see Lori's surgeon, Dr. Levy, next Tuesday. In the meantime we get to fight with our insurance company to pay for additional testing, the same tests that were done last March.
Lori and I expect that a second surgery could be in the near future, yet we both are uncertain what the surgeon will find. Uncertainty we have learned is part of the disease and appreciation is part of living. Lori and I spent the afternoon walking the beach with our dog Revy basking in a beautiful spring day. In the gospel of Thomas Jesus describes God as the embodiment of "motion and rest". We live, we move and in the moments of rest we appreciate living.
We are also resting to regain our strength for the unknown challenges ahead.
